Product Overview
Two jazz legends team up for an unforgettable and moving album of classic spirituals. Bassist Charlie Haden and the late pianist Hank Jones join together on this album of beloved spiritual songs, including Duke Ellington's famous Come Sunday. This album was a last collaboration between these two longtime friends as Hank Jones died in 2010 shortly after completing this album. Hank Jones is considered the consummate jazz pianist and renowned as a soloist, accompanist, and composer. In a career spanning over 70 years, Jones worked with nearly every major jazz musician from Benny Goodman and Ella Fitzgerald to Diana Krall. An acoustic bassist of extraordinary gifts, Charlie Haden's musical talents have been in constant demand by his fellow artists, as he has collaborated with a stunning array of musicians and singers including Hank Jones, John Coltrane, Don Cherry, Pat Metheny and great female singers Norah Jones, Cassandra Wilson, Renee Fleming.
This album includes traditional religious spirituals with a couple Christmas carols, all delivered with elegance, respect for the melody, and brevity. From the simplistic beauty of Take My Hand, Precious Lord and Blessed Assurance, to faster tempos like Down By The Riverside, and a moving, ethereal Going Home, this whole album provides lovely, soothing music.
