This desire only increased after she joined a cloistered, Carmelite convent, and was nearly fulfilled when her convent received a request for missionary sisters.

Due to poor health, she never left the four walls of the convent. Yet, St. Thérèse was proclaimed by Pope Pius XI as a copatroness of the missions, along with St. Francis Xavier.
